Who are hoos?
hoos is an Anglo-scandinavian company based in Leeds, West Yorkshire and is dedicated to bringing you the best in quality contemporary design from the home of modern design, Scandinavia.
hoos's aim is to supply designwares for all aspects of your life be that in the home or garden, which is why we have brought together, in one place, some of the best designers and design led businesses Scandinavia has to offer. This means that you no longer have to search different shops to find what you want, it's all here under one roof.
In addition to the brands hoos currently stocks, we are always on the look out for new and exciting Scandinavian and Danish design so over the coming months and years the diversity of products and brands will increase to cater for all your wants and needs.
The Idea
The idea for hoos came about from the desire of one of the founders, Gitte Winther Petersen, to bring to the UK market all the quality design products and brands that she was brought up with in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gitte says that 'living in Denmark you are spoilt with the availability, quality and diversity that is on offer in regards to Danish designer homewares, and I hope with hoos, we can increase the selection of products and brands available to people in the UK whilst offering a quality service, pleasant shopping experience and competitive prices'.
The Name
OK so where did the name hoos come from? With the founders of the company being both English and Danish we wanted to combine the two languages to come up with something that is simple yet different. Because of the products and brands we offer it was felt that the most appropriate name would be something do to with the home.
The name hoos is therefore the phonetic pronunciation of the Danish word for house which is hus. hoos should be pronounced like the English word loose or moose, except with an 'h'.
